The Factory Project

The Factory Project

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our corner of the world, a place where we manipulate square, round, and fluid shaped pegs in a vast and crazy sphere. No, really, it’s a place where we observe, reflect, and expose—a place where we work hard and create movement stories of many topics.

Watching a Kista Tucker piece is a transformative experience. It’s watching a piece of art or painting come to life. I enjoy gaining insight into the world she constructs through the distinctively creative choices she makes with choreography. Her works are living, breathing, modern masterpieces.

OUR RECENT JOURNEY

Before the pandemic, much of our energy went into activities such as visiting the Netherlands Dans Theater in The Hague, adjudicating for The American College Dance Association (ACDA), teaching, touring, and creating new works. These efforts culminated in The Factory Project: Robinson Industries, a stunning evening-length production.

Since then, we’ve pivoted toward an exciting new direction: film. And now we are on a bit of a different trajectory. Once we added an unusual focus and began working on a project that had been in the back of my mind for a few years, it became evident that it was time to plow deeper—and plow, we did! The result was our 27-minute, national and international award winning movie, Tales from Dapple Creek (TDC).

WHAT’S’ NEXT?

Our goal is to reach a wider audience, so our focus is moving toward film. We are not abandoning live performance, but because people have been touched by our award winning first movie, Tales from Dapple Creek, we look forward to creating new film projects.

We turn to our next film project, Rooms in the House (RITH). We’re thrilled to announce that this project is already underway. As we currently await the results of our matching funds National Endowment for the Arts grant application, fingers crossed, we’ve already begun working toward creating this new movie.

Whether or not we receive the grant, we will continue the project. Because the grant is a matching grant, we need your help more than ever. We have already begun scheduling for RITH. Auditions for this new project will be next spring and rehearsals will begin soon after that. It's more than a year-long process that we are excited about.

Kista Tucker Warm-Ups, another new film project, is already in early stages of preparation. I’ve taught my Warm-Ups to many artists through the years and those artists are, in turn, teaching them to a new generation. It’s time for a video/film documentary of these movement clusters to be made available to a larger community.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

While we await the results of our National Endowment for the Arts matching grant application (fingers crossed!), we’re committed to moving forward. However, to make these ambitious projects a reality, we need your support.

Your contributions enable us to:

  • Hire talented movement artists, a brilliant composer, and an innovative lighting designer.

  • Rent theaters and construct costumes.

  • Produce films and promotional materials that bring our vision to life.

Every dollar you give helps fuel these endeavors and keeps art thriving in a world that often underestimates its value.

We need your help to produce our work. Our funding target is a large one. We have to produce performances involving marvelous movement artists, a brilliant composer, and a new lighting designer. We have to rent theaters, construct costumes, produce videos to be used on stage, for promotion, and as artistic works. Your contributionsl benefit the company by helping to provide funds for upcoming projects.

MORE THAN JUST DANCE

Kista’s novel, Meg’s Dance, while an individual project, complements KTI’s mission statement. It’s written as much for advocacy of dance/movement arts as it is for entertainment. (It is about the life of a dancer/movement artist. There’s also a murder mystery wrapped into the story—gotta attract that new audience!)
